Default Perspective correction - which method for which purpose?

Hi,

I found several methods within PhotoPerfect to correct difficulties with the perspective of an image. Does anyone know, which method makes sense for which purpose. Iīm still unsure about this.

Regards,
Ben

Hi Ben,

What different methods do you mean? AFAIK only "Perspective" is suitable for correcting perspective distortions. It's comparable to a simulation for "Shifting" found in Tilt&Shift lenses, which is useful for taking photos of (tall) buidings.

Pincushion correction is to correct barrel and pincushion effects created (mostly) by wide-angle lenses. Do using this feature, you can correct straight lines, thus making it useful for architecture photography.

Best regards

Default Which methods

Hi Hoang-Tran,

I thought also the other options "pincushion correction" and "pincushion correction and fringe" would be part of the topic "perspective".

Even if the origins of the distortions are different, arenīt the motives concerned very similar - typically buildings/architecture? Or are there also other reasonable purposes for these features?

Regards,

Ben

Hi Ben,

Yes, "pincushion correction" and "pincushion correction and fringe" are different than perspective correction, as these distortions/flaws are lens-related - on contrary to perspective distortion, which is position-related.

However mostly building/architecture are taken with wide-angle lenses, which are very prone to barrel/pincushion distortions and fringe. Thus these distortions usually occurs all together. So in the end it's reasonable to put them all onto the same multi-dialog windows. But "pincushion correction" and "pincushion correction and fringe correction" are not coherent to perspective distortion. Assuming that you have a almost perfect wide-angle lens, e.g. the new 14-24 of nikon (IMO) ;-), just perspective correction would be required.

Best regards
