Default Unfriendly PRINT function

I am using a dedicated 4R photo printer.

The following sequence of actions has to be performed on each photo before it can be printed.
1) Rotate the image to the correct orientation if it is different from the printer preset.
2) Expand the image to maximum element size
3) Insert the date (from exif) via the insert text function and reposition the date appropriately.

Note: I am not using the insert date function as the date is positioned too close
to the edge and is partially trimmed off when printed.

4) Print

Any way to preset it so that I can click, preview and print?

Thanks

jc1

Hi,

If you would like to print a lot of picture, using the "print series/series print" option might be more suitable. Just look for that term in the manual :-) Please make sure to create/save a print draft before using that option. By doing so, you only need to define dimension, size etc... only once for the first photo/draft. After that subsequent photos would be handled automatically.

BTW...what printer exactly and what camera are you using? Personally I do not experience any issue with the date trimmed off. It might be a drivers issue of the printer though.

BTW. the next update of PhotoPerfect might contain other printing option(s) ;-)

Best regards

Hoang-Tran

Thanks for the pointers.

It is a 2 years old dye-sub printer which uses roll paper, Shinko CHC-S9045. I used to output prints using Nikon view or Nikon capture NX. My source of images is from cameras and sometimes, scanned images. All images are sized to 3:2 aspect ratio for 4R printout but may have different image resolution.

Here comes the problem. When the picture is expanded to borderless size with maximum element function, the image is auto sized to 6.14”x4.08”. Hence resulting the printed date being trimmed off partially as it is already positioned so close to the edge.

Best regards,
jc1

Hi,

Thanks for providing the info. Sorry that we cannot retrieve the Shinko printer for testing. However we also have that issue with other printers included large format printers from Epson and Canon in combination with any image editing software. There are some minor difference between the media size used by the printers and software, so that the borderless prints are slightly trimmed.
In those cases I set up custom paper size, which is just some mm smaller than the nominal dimension, (e.g. 5.97 x 4.98 instead of 6x4 inches etc...). After that, using the maximize element would produce perfectly fit prints.

By saving this as draft, you would not have to define to paper size again.

BTW...have you experienced any issue with Nikon view or Nikon capture NX in this regard?

Cheers

Hi Hoang-Tran,

Thank for sharing the above work around tip.

Printing function in Nikon view and Capture NX

The print handler in Nikon view (6.2.7) is perfect, easy and friendly.

For Nikon capture NX (latest version 1.3.3), though the print handler looked very similar to Nikon view, there is imperfection. For instance, the printed date will be marginally trimmed off, too. This happens when the picture is of the same orientation as that defined in the printer setting.

Just my personal opinion.

Cheers

Hi,

No problem! Your text looks fine to me. Maybe I have got good eyeglasses The default text should be Verdana with size # 2. Thanks for your infomation regarding the printers. This would be helpful for us for the next updates. BTW... I am planning to get myself a new Nikon camera and will try out Nikon View (until now I'm Canon DSLR shooter).

Cheers
