Default TIFs and EXIFs

TIF Tab
Here you can store an image in the loss-free TIF format, either uncompressed or using the LZW compression algorithm. The format cannot store Exif data, so this is lost when TIF is used.
Why? When I create a TIF from an rw2 file in RawTherapee the EXIF is there. I use a panarama stitching program that needs the focal length of the component images to work effectively. I was hoping to pull them out of PP.

Hi,

That't true :-( Unfortunately the current TIFF module we are licensing does not allow us to add EXIF data. We are looking for alternatives...

Best regards

This is more serious than I realized. I thought at first it was only when I created TIFFs within PP. But when I create a 16 bit TIFF in another raw converter and then use it in PP the Exif data is lost and the final jpg has no Exif. This is unacceptable. Is there a plan date when this will be fixed? Do you know of a hack or script that will reattach the Exif?

Werner

Unfortunately there is no exact date yet.

Well, the most easiest work-around is converting the RAW files into both TIFFs AND JPEGs. It's no matter how large the JPEGs files are. Thus you can also create very tiny JPEGs to save harddisk space.

There is an option within PP : File - Options - Miscellaneous - Load Exif data from JPG file with same name (the 7th option from bottom). If you set this to 'YES', the the Exif data of the JPEG files will be loaded when you are working with the TIFF files. You can process your TIFF files normally and in the end, if you save your processed TIFF files as JPEG, the original JPEG file will be overwritten, but the Exif data will be kept. But due to the restrictions of the current TIFF-module, the TIFF itself does not contain the Exif header.

Hope this helps a bit.
