Default Embedded RGB profile was lost in JPEQ

Hello all,

When image was saved in jpeq, the embedded RGB profile cannot be retrieved by Photoshop CS3.

Software version: PhotoPerfect multiprocessor ver 2.9 build 117

Following simple check was carried out:
1) Read in a picture file in which RGB profile was embedded.
2) Save the picture file, with or without editing.
3) Read back the saved jpeq file into CS3.
Profile warning in CS3: file does not have an embedded RGB profile.

After using PP for a while, the problem seemed to disappear.
But it did come back occasionally.

Could it be caused by certain setting? Any advice?

Hi,

According to the manual:

"On loading an image, the color profile (if there is one contained in the image) is converted to sRGB. Images are always saved in sRGB color space without profile. "

So the reminding message of CS3 is correct, because there is no color profile embedded. Nevertheless, all images saved with PhotoPerfect is in sRGB. If you have sRGB activated as working color space within CS3, then all colors should be displayed correctly. Otherwise please just assign or convert in another color space if you have that as your working one.

Best regards

Hoang-Tran

Thanks for your enlightening.

However, inconsistency was observed. Some of my edited files output from PP are actually
found to be color profile awared, as illustrated below.

sample1.ipg : original sample file, with embedded color profile
sample1_pp.ipg : cropped from sample1 in pp, and then output.
sample1_cs3.ipg : read sample1 into cs3 and output .

All 3 files should have color profile embedded, as no warning message when reading into cs3.

All exif info are intact. I noticed that the software + photo edited date
in the exif for sample1_pp was not updated by pp, whereas the exif in sample1_cs3 output was updated correctly.

Feel free to examine by copy_and_paste. Files will be deleted after 7 days.

Hi,

We have downloaded the photos you provided and are verifying this issue. Have you noticed any regularity? E.g. photos with intact profile are from camera A and those with lost profile are from camera B? Have your pictures been taken in JPEG or RAW originally?

Until now I have noticed that if the original photo has already been processed by another software. Please click on file-image data - if you see an entry in the software field, then the PP saved file would also contain the embedded color file. However if this "software filed" is empty, then the color profile would be stripped off. This occurs on unprocessed JPEG file taken with my older Canon EOS 20D.

We would be thankful for any further hints.

Best regards

Hoang-Tran

You nailed it, Hoang-Tran.

To clarify, the above files were scanned image from an old photo.

As for the other issue which was brought up in my earlier thread, let me illustrates with the below exif info extracted from sample1_pp.jpg. As mentioned, this file was edited and generated by pp.

Orientation = top/left
X Resolution = 800
Y Resolution = 800
Resolution Unit = inch
Software = Nikon Browser 6.2.7 W <------ this field was not updated, shouldn't it be PerfectPhoto 2.9?
Date Time = 2008-04-12 13:09:20 <-----
YCbCr Positioning = centered
Exif IFD Pointer = Offset: 684
.......

Cheers.

Hi,

AFAIK PhotoPerfect does not update or overwrite the EXIF data automatically and thus keeping all original details intact. You can however manually overwrite any important entry within PhotoPerfect. Nevertheless the issue of stripped off ICC profile is still weird. I've put this on my agenda and will examine this issue further as soon as there is time for doing so. Wow, I'm quite impressed how much you have found out in such short time frame. We are planning to build a beta testing area within the forum soon. Your participation would be highly welcome. You would definitely get my invitation ;-)

Best regards
